A woman in tears shows me photos of her daughter, who disappeared without a trace, like hundreds of thousands of other Uyghurs. Their passports were confiscated and anyone who calls foreign countries risks imprisonment.

In Xinjiang province, Uyghurs are held against their will in labor and re-education camps under strict surveillance. To this day, China speaks of  vocational training institutions that are attended voluntarily.

Every step taken by the Uyghurs is monitored using the latest surveillance technologies. 

They have to work in factories there under strict supervision. These factories are said to be part of the supply chains of at least 83 well-known international brands in the technology, textile and automotive sectors.
